loss and birth
my friend synge of littlefunkymonkey fame had her first baby on the 23rd just one day after her mother's funeral. synge's mom wanted to see her grandson, but after an amazing 19 months of fighting cancer, she couldn't hold out any longer. synge's letter to her mom over on lfm is straight to the heart.and here's the beautiful baby boy...

nice vacation
What a great two weeks with both of us off work in the summery Christmastime. The caving was great. We went to Waitomo and did the Black Labyrinth tour of Ruakuri Cave. Squeezed into wet suits and did some jumping over falls some gliding along in the dark in our innertubes looking up at the glow worms like blue-green stars on the ceiling and a good bit of climbing in knee and hip deep rushing water where you can't see what the floor of the cave is doing. Had a blast. No pics - I obviously couldn't take my camera in the water, and they took some shots, but I didn't really want to pay for them... not in the wetsuit and hat and innertubes...But I did take another shot of Ruapehu. We passed by it on our way to Lake Taupo last year and I put up a photo then, but here's another. Despite the hot summer day it had plenty of snow on top.
On the homefront, we (and by we I mean Darryl) only succeeded in tearing up the bathroom. Due to the long holiday break everyone takes, the new vanity and tub will not be here for a bit.
